FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between Shrine and Colette?

Shrine is an event and colette is our venue. colette clubs is our generous host who allows us to produce Shrine at their club(s). Normally, they are an all inclusive swingers club that welcomes everyone 21+ regardless of sexuality or gender. They normally operate Wednesday –  Friday 9:00pm – 2:00am and Saturday 9:00pm – 3:00am. Visit their website for more information on their events.

When are Shrine’s dates?

Shrine’s dates flex throughout the year based on the Federal Holiday schedule and per city. As Shrine’s events are always once a month on a Sunday, our goal is to find the days that most people will have the next day off. Please check out our dates on our Events Calendar for more information. Note Shrine is open from 6:30pm – 1:00am in Austin and 5:30pm – 12:00am in Houston, with the exception of Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekend when we are open until 2:00am and 1:00am respectively.

I am new to Shrine, what can I expect to experience?

Shrine is like no other event, that’s part by design, part by accident. As our mandate and goal is to be welcoming to all individuals regardless of alternative lifestyle, creed, sexuality, or gender, we see a little bit of everything and everyone. We have voyeurs and kinksters, fetishists and swingers, we have individuals of the LGBTQIA+ Community and Polyamorous folk. As such you will see a little bit of everything. It can be quite a shock to most new people and we typically tell individuals to come with an open mind and just watch for a while before diving in. We like to remind everyone, we never bite without consent.

I do not normally attend colette, can I still get in?

Absolutely! Shrine operates with colette to provide a membership for Shrine nights. This is covered with your door fee. No additional fees are required. This is the standard fee for all individuals, whether you attend colette’s events or not.

Is this really a dry event?

Yes, Shrine is a dry event. If you bring alcohol into Shrine you will be removed from the event with no refund. Additionally, if you are someone who repeatedly tries to sneak alcohol in, you will be banned from the event. Shrine is also a drug free zone and does not allow illegal substances of any kind in the club or on the premises.

What is the dress code? What should I wear?

Shrine does not have a dress code and once inside anything or nothing goes! We do require that you must be street legal in accordance with local laws coming up to the club. Inside however, you can wear what you feel most comfortable in even if that is nothing at all (always be mindful to have a barrier when you sit down please!). We highly encourage fetish wear, leather gear, or dressed as if you were going to go to a nicer event.

This is my first kink experience ever, is there someone that I can talk to?

Shrine has multiple individuals that you can talk to. If you are interested in learning more about the event and getting a better understanding of what we do we suggest that you contact our Leadership prior to the day of the event. When you first arrive, we encourage you to take a tour with one of our Front of House Tour Guides to walk you through the venue and answer any questions. If you are interested in meeting people we suggest that you check out our play board on fetlife or go to one of your cities munches.

I want to meet someone so I can negotiate a scene is there a play board?

Yes, Shrine has a play board that is housed on one of our Fetlife pages called Shrine ATX Play Space.

How can I sign up to be a volunteer?

You can sign up by going to the volunteer section of our web page or by contacting the Director of Volunteers for your city. We are always in need of various volunteers so if you want to find what Shrine needs we highly suggest you check out our volunteers section first!

I have an idea for a really cool scene but it will require a lot of different equipment and/or work, how can I do it at Shrine?

In general Shrine welcomes all sorts of play and we encourage even advanced and dynamic play. If you have a scene that will require extra space or unique equipment we highly suggest that you contact our the Director of Features & Entertainment for your city. They oversee all the cool entertainment that Shrine offers, as well as, any advanced scenes that may occur.

What do I do if I feel someone broke a rule, made me feel uncomfortable, intruded into my scene, or broke my consent?

We encourage everyone to always reach out to a DM if you feel that someone broke a rule, is making you uncomfortable, intruded on your scene, or broke your consent. We also highly advise that you review our policies and procedures in regards to how we handle any and all consent incidents so that you can feel empowered to make the best decision in how you report.

Can I have sex/scene anywhere inside Shrine?

You can have sex in most spaces at Shrine. Shrine does not allow sex inside the bathrooms, or on the white couches. We ask that wherever you have sex that you please have barriers to help with any unintended spillage. Likewise, you can scene most anywhere with most types of play. Your scene should be self-contained, have the proper safety equipment, and not intrude into another’s scene. Please note fire play is only allowed in the fire play zone, only at Austin Shrine, and like all scenes, participants need to bring all necessary safety equipment.

What kind of furniture is at Shrine?

Shrine furniture varies between location but in general each Shrine party will have multiple beds, crosses and/or double crosses, benches, massage tables, portable/stationary hard points, and mats for primal/rough body play. In general, we allow most types of play regardless of the type of station, for instance you can do a needle scene on a cross so long as you have the necessary barriers laid out. You may also use spaces such as the stripper poles next to the hard points to tie off and scene as well. Please note, our layout is subject to change due to Featured Guests, Vendors, or other unforeseen events.

What type of play do you allow at Shrine?

Shrine allows most types of play with the exception of a few edge plays. The most notable are, skat play, rainbow play, and gun play (guns are not permitted inside the club). Additionally, Shrine Austin does not allow watersports play, and Shrine Houston does not allow fire play. If you have a scene that you are concerned is too edgy or you are unsure if we would allow, please always reach out to the Director of Features & Entertainment for your city before Shrine or a DM the day of the event.

Do I have to complete a waiver and membership form each time?

No. In order to attend a Shrine event, you will need to complete a Colette and Shrine membership agreement form when you create your colette profile and purchase your Shrine event ticket. Your agreement will be attached to your profile and member #. The full list of Shrine’s rules will be available to review on our website at anytime.

Can I leave Shrine and come back?

Yes, once you have checked in you will receive a wristband. If you need to take a smoke break, go to your car, or just catch some fresh air you can always come back in and not have to wait in line.

Where can I buy my tickets?

Tickets can be purchased at the door or online through the colette website. Please note that at the door the tickets are an even $20 in Houston or $15 in Austin, but the lines do get long. We encourage, especially on holiday weekends, that you buy your tickets in advance online via your member profile. Please be aware, there is a servicing fee to process online payments.

NOTE: You cannot buy your tickets online if you have not completed BOTH Shrine and colette membership agreements!

What do I need to do/bring in order to do a scene?

Each scene is different so there is no set rule on what you need to bring. We highly suggest that you bring your own toys as Shrine’s vendors may not have the types of toys you want when you arrive. You are REQUIRED, however, to bring your own safety equipment. If a DM observes that you do not have the necessary safety equipment for your scene they will stop your scene or not allow you to proceed.
